If you are self-conscious about the appearance or structure of your genitalia – especially after pregnancy, as a result of aging, or if it causes discomfort or reduced sexual pleasure during intercourse – you may consider genital plastic surgery.

Also known as vaginal labiaplasty or vaginal reconstruction, genital plastic surgery can correct this problem and restore your self-confidence and sexual enjoyment by reducing and reshaping protruding inner and/or vaginal lips. It’s a common procedure that has helped many women feel better about their appearance, while resolving any physical or sexual discomfort.

Ideal candidates for vaginal labiaplasty are women who:

  • Are troubled by the enlarged or asymmetric size of their inner labia
  • Experience pain or discomfort during sex or other physical activities
  • Are embarrassed by their appearance in swimwear and other types of clothing
  • Desire a smoother, more refined contour to their labia
  • Want to reduce the size of their pubic mound

However, before choosing to undergo genital plastic surgery, there are several things you ought to know. Let’s talk about these factors and where you can go in Miami, Florida, for outstanding genital plastic surgery.

  1. Vaginal labiaplasty may or may not be necessary. Some women assume that all vulvas need to look the same, and if theirs doesn’t, something must be wrong, which is why so many patients elect the procedure to eliminate camel toe. However, If you are seeking genital plastic surgery merely for cosmetic reasons, you should first consult with your gynecologist, who can educate you on normal anatomy so you can make an informed decision on whether or not vaginal reconstruction is right for you.
  2. There are numerous reasons to consider labiaplasty.  Besides being self-conscious and distressed with the way how genitalia look, a woman may be experiencing inflammation, painful sex, or chafing due to labia minora (inner lips), which are too voluminous. Or one labium may be enlarged while the other is not, causing similar problems.  In that case, she would be a good candidate for labiaplasty.
  3. Although the procedure is relatively quick, vaginal reconstruction can be fairly complex. There is more than one way to perform genital plastic surgery. Usually patients are treated under anesthesia, allowed to recover for a few hours, then sent home. However, depending on one’s individual needs, various procedures are designed to make the labia smaller, more symmetrically, or flush with the vagina. As such, it can take anywhere from one to three hours, depending on the detail involved or if both sides of the labia need to be addressed.
  4. The healing process and length of recovery from vaginal labiaplasty will vary from patient to patient. Following the procedure, you will likely experience bruising, swelling, and minor discomfort. Although bed rest is typically recommended on the day of the procedure, most patients can return to work or resume their normal activities within three to seven days. Nevertheless, you should refrain from strenuous activity and sexual intercourse for several weeks following the procedure.
  5. Genital plastic surgery is not usually covered by insurance. This is especially true if the procedure is performed purely for cosmetic reasons, in which case you will have to pay out of pocket. However, if you have a congenital condition such as vulvitis or painful sex, it may be covered. Ensure to check with your medical insurance provider about your specific coverage be covered by the insurance
